Program Overview

The Basic Welding Technician Certificate prepares students for a career in production welding. This certificate gives students the basic skills in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and print reading necessary to be successful in the production welding industry. This certificate allows students to become eligible for specialized welding certifications through the American Welding Society (AWS).

The Advanced Welding Technician Certificate is designed for specific advanced careers in production welding, small fabrication shops and the construction industry. Complete the Welding Technician Certificate and then choose from applicable courses in SMAW, GTAW, and Fabrication. The Advanced Welding Technician Certificate allows students to become eligible for specialized welding certifications through the American Welding Society (AWS).

The primary purpose of an Associate in Applied Science degree is to prepare students for employment. The AAS degree is not designed specifically for transfer; however, there are opportunities to apply some coursework or the whole degree to a bachelor’s degree program. IMT 104 - Blueprint Reading for Manufacturing 3 Credits
MAT 106 - Applied Mathematics I 3 Credits
WLD 121 - SMAW Flat and Horizontal 3 Credits
WLD 131 - GMAW Flat and Horizontal 3 Credits
WLD 132 - GMAW Vertical and Overhead 3 Credits
WLD 133 - FCAW, Spray and Pulse Spray 3 Credits
WLD 141 - GTAW Ferrous 3 Credits

Other Certificate Graduation Requirements:

2.0 minimum cumulative GPA at MCC upon completion of program
For certificates of less than 12 credit hours, all required credits must be completed through MCC coursework. For all other certificates, one-half of the minimum credit hours required must be completed through MCC coursework.
Completion of graduate application
Completion of end-of-program assessment as directed by this department.
