Program Overview

The AAS in Horticulture program is comprehensive and career-focused, providing students with a strong foundation in the diverse field of horticulture. This two-year program covers a wide range of horticultural topics, including plant science, soil science, plant materials, plant production, fruit and vegetable production, and pest and disease management. With a blend of classroom learning and hands-on experiences, students will gain the practical skills and in-depth knowledge necessary to excel in their careers. This program prepares graduates for a wide range of career opportunities in horticulture, such as greenhouse production, landscape management, food production, and beyond.

The primary purpose of an Associate in Applied Science degree is to prepare students for employment. The AAS degree is not designed specifically for transfer; however, there are opportunities to apply some coursework or the whole degree to a bachelor’s degree program. Written Communication: 3 Credit Hours

Select one Arts, Humanities, Social Science, Behavioral Science Course   3 Credits 

Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science: 4 Credit Hours

Business and Marketing Core: 3 Credit Hours


Choose one:

General Electives: 6 Credit Hours


Choose 6 credit hours from any MCC courses 100 level or above listed in the catalog and not already included in the Program Electives list.

Total Minimum Degree Credits: 60


Other AAS Graduation Requirements:


  • 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA at MCC upon completion of program
  • 15 semester hours of program-specific coursework taken at MCC
  • Completion of graduation application
  • Completion of end-of-program assessment as directed by this department
