ENG 277 - Intro to Children’s Literature

3 Credits
Lecture: 3

Introduction to Children’s Literature is a study of formal and thematic elements of several different genres of children’s literature (fables, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, picture books, chapter books, novels, etc), and children’s literary scholarship. This course will teach students to recognize the differences between children’s, pre-adolescent, adolescent, and young adult fiction, and to critically analyze the texts themselves - as they pertain to the intended audiences, and more academically, how they signify identities, cultures, ethics and contexts.

Note: This course requires advanced reading and advanced writing.
