EMS 224 - Paramedic Module V: Internship

6 Credits
Lab: 8

Paramedic Module V is the final course in a five-course series required for students to complete the Paramedic Certificate Program. This is a clinical-focused course requiring extensive prehospital field experience. Students are required to demonstrate minimum competency in live patient care interactions under direct supervision of an approved paramedic preceptor. All patient interactions are evaluated in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains in compliance with standards established by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. A series of summative assessments and evaluations are required to pass the field internship. Students who complete EMS-224 with a grade of C (75%) or higher along with completion of all laboratory and clinical requirements will be evaluated by the program director and medical director to determine eligibility to challenge the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) paramedic cognitive exam. Clinical experience is required for all EMS 200 level courses. Specific clinical requirements, including minimum hour and patient contact requirements, are outlined in the EMS Department Policy Manual.
