LAW 101 - Introduction to Legal Studies

Introduction to Legal Studies provides students with a comprehensive overview of the American legal system and the diverse careers, skill sets, and responsibilities within the legal profession. Students will explore the structure and function of courts, the roles of legal professionals, and foundational principles of law. Emphasis is placed on legal terminology, ethical responsibilities, and the development of essential skills in legal research, writing, interviewing, and investigation.


The course also introduces students to substantive areas of law, including civil procedure, litigation, business law, and criminal law, while examining how technology continues to transform modern legal practice. Finally, students will engage in practical discussions about law office culture, career pathways, and strategies for professional success in today’s evolving legal environment.
