INJ 171 - Molding Processes 3 Credits Lecture: 2 Lab: 2
Molding Processes introduces students to a variety of polymer molding methods, including injection, blow, and compression molding. The course emphasizes practical skills such as mold inspection and installation, identification of heating and cooling elements, and determining proper process settings for different polymers. Students learn to assess material conditions, perform machine loading, troubleshoot molding defects, and optimize product quality. The course also covers SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) for efficient mold changeovers and outlines preventative maintenance practices for both hydraulic and electric molding systems, preparing students for effective operation and maintenance in modern manufacturing environments.
