INJ 170 - General Plastics 3 Credits Lecture: 3 Lab: 0
General Plastics introduces students to the science and engineering of plastics, emphasizing material classification, structure, and performance. Students will explore the major categories of plastics, including thermoplastics and thermosets, and learn to distinguish between amorphous and semi-crystalline structures. The course covers the properties and applications of various engineered resins, along with methods for comparing and evaluating different plastic families based on their structural and performance characteristics. Through analysis of polymer molecular structures and thermal properties, students will gain insight into how plastics behave under various conditions. Additionally, the course examines the four main plastic process variables, enabling students to interpret their effects on material performance and product quality.
