SWK 151 - Introduction to Social Work 3 Credits Lecture: 3
Introduction to Social Work provides students with a comprehensive overview of the social work profession. The course explores the historical development, core values, ethics, roles, and practice settings of social work. Emphasis is placed on understanding the mission of social work as an empowering profession committed to social justice, human rights, and service to diverse populations. Students will examine current social issues, systems of oppression, and the impact of policy, while developing a foundational understanding of micro, mezzo, and macro practice. Through readings, discussions, reflective writing, and hands-on activities, students will begin to explore their emerging professional identity and consider career paths in social work.
